A digital and activating awareness campaign on children’s rights for young and old
In 1989 the agreement on the rights of children, the so-called UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, was adopted by the United Nations and has been effective in Germany since 1992. Up until today, children’s rights are not included in our Basic Law. Currently, their implementation is blocked by a controversy between the governing parties.
Respecting children’s rights is an essential part of child development. At the moment there is a lack of communication, meaning that only very few children and adults are familiar with these rights. This is caused by a low awareness on the importance of children’s rights in our society.
With my work I would like to draw attention to this socially relevant topic and make its contents accessible to children and adults. My goal is to help children learn the basics of childhood education. Further, it should sensitize adults to the fact that children are independent personalities with their own rights. Through this education, I also hope to increase the political pressure to incorporate children’s rights into the Basic Law.
